Buses in Hungary (in Hungarian).
By flight
It is the fastest way to get to your destination but to get a cheap flight you have to plan your journey in advance! Search for opportunities on the internet, it is often cheaper than buying a ticket at a travel agency. In Hungary WizzAir and EasyJet offer cheap flights.
Hitchhiking
The cheapest but most incalculable form of transportation. You don't know what time you get a lift and who will take you to your destination, not to mention the duration of your journey. In some countries it is a tradition to give some money to the driver (f.i. in Romania or Bulgaria) meanwhile in some others they won't give you a lift (in Finland for instance). If you want to travel by hitchhiking it is better to do it together with someone else, it is much safer and much more fun like that.
By bike
An environmental-friendly and healthy way of getting from one place to another. It requires some mental and physical preparation but it can be a nice way of discovering the world. As there are some difficulties you might meet it is always better to ride the bicycle abroad with a friend. On your way you must know the bicycle roads available as it is not allowed in every country to use any other roads. In most countries you also need a helmet and it is better to use it for safety reasons all the time.
By train
It is an easy way to get to many destinations fast. Always ask for the student discount or for other discounts available for young people.
By bus
The international bus companies (Eurolines and Orangeways) offer really cheap tickets almost everywhere in Europe. In Hungary the buses leave from Népliget (on the line of the blue metro) and you can also buy your ticket there.
By car
If you plan a journey by car it is better to have had a driving license for at least a couple of months. If you go together with some other people you had better change the drivers on the way so that everyone can have a rest. If your car breaks down on the way it might be expensive to have it repaired so be prepared for unexpected situations like that... In some countries the petrol is cheaper so it might be a good idea to plan expenses according to that. Always carry the documents of the car with you and be aware of parking costs so that you can avoid being fined. In some countries an international driving license is requested as well.
In Europe there is left-hand traffic in the following countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Cypress.
If you go abroad by car your insurance company will give you a certificate about your insurance and some information about its partners abroad. If the car that you drive is not yours you might need a certificate from the owner of the car.
If you want to travel together with a driver who you haven't met before you can check this website: www.kenguru.hu. The driver uses his car and decreases the costs. The passenger can travel for a good price and comfortably.
If you want to rent a car abroad you might need to have had your driving license for years.
